Rachel Schuit (1993) is a theatre maker and performer who explores the intimate encounter between the human body and the landscape. Employing the playful and inquisitive body as her instrument, she seeks to explore the essence of a location, a sense of place.
For her, the body represents a multi-layered realm/space with its own knowledge and recollections, offering new and unfamiliar ways to perceive our surroundings.
Site-specific settings, with their distinct dynamics, elements, and materials, serve as her source of inspiration. Through her art, she strives to immerse her audience in the sensory exploration of a place.
Collaboration plays an essential role in her practice. She frequently works alongside artists from other disciplines, allowing these exchanges to shape the work itself. Working with children as equal collaborators is also a central inspiration in her practice, as it reconnects her to playfulness, curiosity and open-ended forms of discovery.
She graduated from Theatre in Education in 2018 and from the Mime department in 2021, both at the Amsterdam University of the Arts.
For multiple projects she has been collaborating with the theater company such as Schweigman& and Teatro de los Sentidos in Barcelona and with spatial artist Cocky Eek. As a performer she has been working with artists like Johannes Bellinkx, Marcelo Evelin, Boogaerdt&vanderSchoot and Profound Play. For further development of her practice as a young artist, she has currently been accepted within the trajectory of Station Noord from 2024-2027.
